Indonesia inaugurates Cilamaya LPG refinery to reduce imports

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia has officially inaugurated the Cilamaya Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) refinery in Karawang, West Java. The facility, a joint venture between PT Energi Nusantara Perkasa and PT Euroasiatic Jaya, represents an investment of approximately US$ 36 million (Rp644.5 billion).

The refinery has a production capacity of 160 metric tons of LPG per day, equivalent to 52,800 tons per year. It is estimated that this facility can meet roughly 10% of the LPG consumption needs for the West Java and Jakarta regions. Additionally, the plant produces 320 barrels of condensate per day.

This development is part of a broader national strategy to decrease Indonesia's heavy reliance on LPG imports, which currently range between 7 million and 8 million tons annually. To further bolster energy security, the government is also encouraging the use of agricultural land for ethanol production as an alternative fuel source.
