Indonesia introduces electronic land certificates via digital vault
The Indonesian Ministry of ATR/BPN has introduced electronic land certificates to mitigate the risks of physical damage or loss. These digital certificates are stored in an electronic vault accessible to rights holders through the ‘Sentuh Tanahku’ application.
Asnaedi, the Director General of Rights Determination and Land Registration, stated that the transition to digital storage eliminates the need for traditional procedures such as swearing oaths regarding lost documents or publishing notices in newspapers. The digital vault includes security features such as biometric authentication.
During this transition period, the Ministry continues to provide official printed copies using secure paper to assist those adjusting to the new system. Additionally, analog certificates can be converted to electronic versions through a media transfer service at local land offices.
