Indonesia Issues Fire Alerts for Jeneponto and Temanggung

On July 27 2026 the government of Jeneponto Regency in South Sulawesi urged residents to heighten vigilance against fire risks as the region entered the peak of the dry season. The appeal prohibited open burning of land, waste or dry vegetation, improper disposal of lit cigarettes, unsafe electrical installations, unattended cooking appliances and unsupervised use of matches or fireworks, especially by children.

In Central Java the Temanggung Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) issued a similar alert focused on the area around Pos 4 on Gunung Sumbing, where dry grass creates high fire danger. Hikers were instructed not to light fires, to keep camp stoves under supervision and to camp only in designated zones. The agency coordinated with the state forest corporation Perhutani and base‑camp operators to conduct safety briefings, check evacuation routes and ensure readiness in case of fire.
