Indonesia launches 100 GWp solar power program

President Prabowo Subianto has launched the 100 GWp Solar Power Plant (PLTS) program, aiming to achieve energy independence and reduce reliance on imports within approximately three years. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in Gilimanuk, Bali, marking the start of a large-scale initiative to expand Indonesia's renewable energy capacity.

The initial phase of the program includes 14 projects with a total capacity of 5,300 MWp distributed across various regions. PLN Indonesia Power is actively developing its solar portfolio, which includes floating solar projects such as Gajah Mungkur (134.2 MWp), Saguling (92 MWp), as well as plants in Pasuruan (132 MWp) and Banyuwangi (132 MWp).

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia estimated the total investment required for the program at approximately US$71.3 billion to US$73 billion. The initiative is projected to create roughly 5.5 million jobs, split between construction and manufacturing sectors. Additionally, the program is expected to reduce carbon emissions by up to 140 million tons of CO2 per year and potentially save up to Rp73.9 trillion in annual subsidies.
