Indonesia launches 2026 Santri Day commemorations

The 2026 Santri Day (Hari Santri) commemorations have commenced in Indonesia, marked by regional activities and national initiatives. In Lamongan, the Nahdlatul Ulama (PCNU) branch launched the celebrations with the ‘Jelajah Santri’ event. Approximately 1,200 participants from 15 sub-branches participated in scouting activities designed to strengthen character and collaboration among students.

Nationally, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar launched the theme ‘Santri Menguatkan Negeri Menuju Indonesia Emas’ (Santri Strengthening the Nation Towards Golden Indonesia). He emphasized the historical significance of the ‘Jihad Resolution’ and the role of religious scholars in Indonesia’s struggle for independence.

The national program includes several key agendas: the ‘Surat Santri untuk Presiden’ (Santri Letters to the President), where students share aspirations with President Prabowo Subianto; the ‘Pesantren Award’ to recognize contributors to Islamic boarding schools; and the ‘Perkemahan Pramuka Santri Nusantara’ (Nusantara Santri Scout Camp) scheduled to take place in Malang Regency.
