Indonesia launches four carbon‑trade projects under forest scheme

Jakarta – The Indonesian Ministry of Forestry announced the launch of four forest‑based carbon‑trade projects, using a Non‑Certificate Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction (Non‑SPE‑GRK) scheme. Minister Raja Juli Antoni said the units will be registered and traded “so they are not just promises, but concrete credits.” The initiative is presented as a result of President Prabowo Subianto’s strong leadership on the green economy.

One of the projects, the Bujang Raba landscape in Jambi province, received official approval to issue 238,281 t CO₂e of community‑based carbon credits. Executive Director of KKI WARSI, Adi Junedi, called the decision “more than an administrative document,” emphasizing its role in recognizing local people who protect the forest. The credits will be recorded in the National Climate Change Registry, aiming to deliver fair benefits to the five villages managing the 7,291 ha forest area and to strengthen Indonesia’s climate‑change mitigation efforts.
