Indonesia launches housing initiatives for low-income citizens

President Prabowo Subianto is set to launch the ‘Gentengisasi’ program in Majalengka, West Java, on November 8. The initiative aims to strengthen residential infrastructure by utilizing standardized building materials from local small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Maruarar Sirait, confirmed that 34 selected SMEs have passed strict quality curation and hold Indonesian National Standard (SNI) certifications. For the inaugural launch, the government has prepared a supply of 2.4 million clay roof tiles.

In a parallel effort to support the administration's goal of providing 3 million homes, the Indonesian government is implementing tax exemptions for low-income communities (MBR). Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian announced the waiver of Land and Building Acquisition Duty (BPHTB) and Building Construction Permits (PMB) for these groups. The BPHTB, typically 5 percent of the object's sale value, will be reduced to zero for eligible citizens to facilitate access to decent housing and encourage private sector involvement in the housing ecosystem.
