Indonesia launches vocational training programs for people with disabilities

Various empowerment programs in Indonesia are focusing on vocational training for people with disabilities to foster independence and social inclusion.

In Yogyakarta, 100 individuals with disabilities from five regencies and cities are participating in a month-long batik-making program. This initiative, a collaboration between the Difabel Zone community, Mandiri Utama Finance, and the Yogyakarta regional government, aims to build skills and self-confidence. The program is scheduled to conclude on December 3, coinciding with International Day of Persons with Disabilities, with a planned exhibition and fashion show.

In Semarang, PT Pelindo Sinergi Lokaseva is expanding its PIJAR program, which provides professional training for visually impaired individuals. The 2026 iteration focuses on training 20 visually impaired participants in traditional massage therapy. In collaboration with the Indonesian Blind Association (PERTUNI) Semarang and local social services, the program includes socialization, basic massage technique certification, and the provision of practical tools to support sustainable livelihoods.
