Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa Not Detained by Jakarta South Prosecutor

The Jakarta South Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari Jaksel) ruled on 22 June 2026 that Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma, known as Dr Tifa, would not be placed in detention in the case accusing them of defamation and alleged falsification of President Joko Widodo’s diploma. Their lawyers had filed a request for suspension of detention, which was accepted on the basis that the suspects’ families would act as guarantors and the suspects pledged cooperation.

Both Suryo and Dr Tifa said they would continue the legal battle, describing the decision as a “victory of the people” and urging public support. The ruling prompted varied reactions: supporters of President Jokowi warned of possible external influence on the decision, while political analysts stressed the broader implications for freedom of expression. President Jokowi’s legal team announced that the president intends to attend the upcoming trial in East Jakarta and will present his original diploma as evidence.

The case, which has drawn nationwide media attention, remains under investigation, with the suspects required to report regularly to the prosecutor’s office while the trial proceeds.
