Indonesia livestock sector sees regional growth and new dairy projects

Indonesia's livestock industry continues to expand to meet domestic demand for meat, milk, and eggs. According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), there are 200 legal livestock companies in the country as of 2025, with 187 currently active. West Java leads the nation with 44 companies, followed by West Nusa Tenggara (26) and East Java (25).

In South Sulawesi, the Ministry of Agriculture is advancing a strategic project to build an integrated dairy farm in Bone. Located on 2.8 hectares at the Politeknik Pembangunan Pertanian (Polbangtan) Gowa campus, the facility is designed to house 600 dairy cows. The project includes feed processing facilities and a milk processing unit to produce sterile milk, aiming to strengthen the downstream livestock sector.

The Bone facility will also serve as a teaching farm, providing students with hands-on experience in livestock management and milk processing. Construction is expected to begin between late August and early September 2026.
