Indonesia loses 0-4 to Romania in 2026 Davis Cup
Indonesia's tennis team suffered a 0-4 defeat against Romania in the 2026 Davis Cup World Group II at the Gelora Bung Karno Tennis Stadium in Jakarta. The Indonesian squad relied on young players, including Gunawan Trismuwantara, Rafalentino Ali Da Costa, Lucky Candra Kurniawan, Ethan David Zapp, and Claudio Renardi Lumanauw, as senior players Muhammad Rifqi Fitriadi, Christopher Rungkat, and Anthony Susanto were unavailable due to Asian Games commitments.
Romania secured the victory across all matches, including a doubles loss for Indonesia where Rafalentino and Ethan fell to Stefan Horia Haita and Radu David Turcanu with a score of 2-6, 1-6. As a result of this loss, Indonesia will compete in the World Group II play-offs in 2027.
The Indonesian Tennis Association (PP Pelti) stated that the defeat serves as a valuable evaluation tool and a learning experience for the young players. Secretary General Andi Fajar Asti noted that the team lacked match experience compared to the Romanian players and emphasized the need to increase international tournament participation to prepare for future competitions.
