Indonesia Manpower Ministry emphasizes practical competency over certification

Indonesian labor officials are emphasizing that professional certification and vocational training must translate into tangible skills rather than mere formalities.

Deputy Minister of Manpower Afriansyah Noor stated that competency certification for State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) must be based on actual ability. He stressed the need for clear standards, competent assessors, and strong governance to ensure the credibility and objectivity of assessments. Noor noted that as technology and business dynamics evolve, workers must be skilled, adaptive, and aligned with industry risks and business needs.

Similarly, Minister of Manpower Yassierli advised participants of the National Vocational Training (PVN) program that a training certificate alone is insufficient for securing employment. During an orientation in Bekasi, Yassierli urged the 14,688 participants to focus on mastering practical skills, gaining experience, and building portfolios that demonstrate real-world capability. He highlighted that professional success requires continuous learning, the ability to accept feedback, and the practical application of theory to meet industry demands.
