Indonesia maritime search operations find one deceased and continue search for another

Search and rescue operations in Indonesia have resulted in one fatality and one ongoing search for missing persons in separate maritime incidents.

In Jembrana, a passenger from the KMP Cemerlang vessel, identified as 23-year-old Rizki Firmansyah, was found dead in the Gilimanuk waters on Friday, October 2, 2026. After a five-day search, the body was located floating approximately 2.5 nautical miles west of the original incident site where the passenger had fallen overboard while traveling from Ketapang Port to Gilimanuk Port. The joint SAR team utilized drones, RIB 01 Gilimanuk, and various naval and police vessels to complete the recovery.

Meanwhile, in Probolinggo, East Java, search efforts continue for Ismail, a 58-year-old diver who went missing near a shipwreck in the Kalibuntu waters. As of Saturday, October 3, 2026, the third day of the operation, the victim has not been located. The joint SAR team has divided personnel into two units: one performing underwater diving at the incident site and another conducting visual surface searches using a parallel search pattern across an 8.5 square nautical mile area.
