Indonesia MBG program hit by fraud claim and kitchen disruptions
In the coastal district of Pesisir Selatan, West Sumatra, entrepreneur Yul Afrianto, who runs a Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) kitchen, filed a police and prosecutor report alleging fraud by the program’s foundation and the landowner. According to his lawyer Rodi Chandra, the complaint was submitted on 18 June 2026 and claims a loss of about 1 billion rupiah after construction was halted, materials vanished and the site was taken over without his knowledge.
In Banyuwangi, East Java, the Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) kitchens continue operating normally despite earlier criticism of the MBG program. Chair Sugiarto of HMD‑GEMAS explained that temporary delays were caused by misunderstandings of the fund‑top‑up mechanism and a brief suspension linked to wastewater‑treatment compliance. About 150 SPPG kitchens are active, with funding disbursed weekly to virtual accounts, and services have returned to full operation.
