Indonesia men's volleyball team takes bronze as coach confirms veterans' retirements

The Indonesia men's national volleyball team finished third at the 2026 SEA V Cup, beating Cambodia 3–1 on 26 July in Jakarta's International Velodrome. Coach Reidel Toiran praised the squad’s effort, noting that the players’ physical condition had declined after a demanding schedule that included the AVC Men's Volleyball Championship in India and the first leg of the SEA V Cup in the Philippines.

Toiran also revealed that he had tried to persuade opposite hitter Rivan Nurmulki and setter Nizar Zulfikar to remain with the team. Both athletes had submitted resignation letters to the Indonesian Volleyball Federation (PBVSI) in May 2026 and chose to retire, prompting the coach to respect their decisions. He said, "If they have resigned, I cannot force them" and emphasized the principle of honoring a player’s choice, stating that "it is a matter of principle; you cannot keep switching back for the national team."
