Indonesia Minister proposes integrated ecosystem for poverty alleviation
Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, has called for an integrated ecosystem to address poverty, emphasizing a shift from social protection to community empowerment. Speaking at a regional coordination meeting in Surakarta, Central Java, Iskandar stated that while social assistance and social security serve as temporary cushions and safety nets, the ultimate goal must be community self-reliance.
The proposed strategy involves linking social protection with job creation, income improvement, and business opportunities. Iskandar stressed that the government cannot achieve this alone and requires collaboration between central and local governments, the private sector, industry, academia, and philanthropic organizations.
Under the administration of President Prabowo Subianto, the Indonesian government has prioritized poverty alleviation, aiming to reach a specific poverty rate target through these multi-stakeholder efforts.
