Indonesia Ministry of Education launches teacher upskilling program

The Indonesian Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is implementing an upskilling and reskilling program for 118 vocational high school (SMK) teachers across 11 provinces. The initiative aims to ensure vocational education remains aligned with evolving technology and labor market demands.

Minister Abdul Mu’ti emphasized that education should extend beyond formal schooling to include informal and non-formal learning. He highlighted the importance of fostering entrepreneurship and soft skills in vocational students, rather than solely preparing them for traditional office roles. The ministry intends to develop diverse SMK programs that leverage local potential, such as fisheries and agriculture, to build student creativity and economic independence.
