Indonesia Ministry of Education promotes language preservation and new academic standards

The Indonesian Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is implementing several strategic policies to improve educational access and preserve national cultural heritage. Minister Abdul Mu'ti has called on local governments to strengthen the preservation of 729 regional languages to prevent extinction, particularly for those without written traditions. This initiative follows the Trigatra Bangun Bahasa policy, which emphasizes prioritizing the Indonesian language, preserving regional languages, and mastering foreign languages.

In terms of educational opportunities, the BeZakat 2026 scholarship program has been announced for undergraduate students at Islamic religious universities. Additionally, the Ministry has set new academic standards for the 2026 PKN STAN admissions, requiring a minimum report card score of 80.00 in English and Mathematics. The ministry is also managing the transition of PPPK teachers into civil servant (ASN) status.
