Indonesia Ministry of Manpower and PT IWIP partner to boost local industrial skills

The Indonesian Ministry of Manpower has entered into a strategic partnership with PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) to enhance the capacity and competence of the local workforce, specifically within the heavy metal processing sector. The memorandum of understanding, effective from 2026 to 2028, aims to prepare a competitive workforce to support rapid industrial investment in eastern Indonesia.

Minister of Manpower Yassierli stated that large-scale investments must be aligned with high-quality human resource preparation and a conducive labor climate. To optimize employment, the Ministry has encouraged PT IWIP to develop a five-year human resources roadmap. This plan includes a tiered workforce structure ranging from operators to young engineers, while ensuring that the use of foreign workers is limited to specific technical needs accompanied by mandatory knowledge transfer to domestic workers.

Deputy Minister of Manpower Afriansyah Noor also emphasized the importance of training local workers during the initial two to four years of industrial facility construction. He noted that the state must prepare the necessary workforce during the construction phase so that domestic workers possess the required competencies by the time operations begin.
