Indonesia Ministry of Manpower: Labor Protection Bill not yet finalized
Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower has reported that the number of issues identified in the Labor Protection Bill (RUU Pelindungan Ketenagakerjaan) has increased from approximately 1,850 to over 2,100 as discussions continue between the government and the House of Representatives (DPR).
Indah Anggoro Putri, Director General of Industrial Relations and Manpower Social Security, stated that the bill is not yet finalized and urged the public to disregard any documents circulating that claim to be the final version. The bill was an initiative of the DPR, with the government receiving the concept on August 27, 2026.
Following a presidential mandate on September 1, 2026, seven ministries are tasked with discussing the bill alongside the DPR. These include the Ministries of Manpower, Law, State Secretariat, MSMEs, Home Affairs, Industry, and Women Empowerment and Child Protection.
Key areas of government focus include wages, social security for micro-sector workers, training, internships, and outsourcing. The government is also seeking to expand protection to include digital platform workers, fishermen, caregivers, elderly nurses, artists, and workers in the micro, small, and medium enterprise sectors.
