Indonesia Ministry of Manpower launches vocational training for 50,000 laid-off workers
The Indonesian Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) has launched a competency-based vocational training program targeting 50,000 workers affected by layoffs (PHK) between January 2024 and 2026. The initiative aims to equip displaced workers with skills to re-enter the job market or pursue entrepreneurship.
Eligible participants include those with fixed-term (PKWT) or permanent (PKWTT) employment contracts who are not currently receiving Job Loss Insurance (JKP) benefits from BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. Training covers various sectors, such as digital marketing, sewing and fashion, food and beverage, air conditioning maintenance, window film installation, and hydroponic installation. The program consists of 40 hours of instruction conducted across 21 vocational training centers (BBPVP and BPVP) nationwide.
Additionally, the Ministry is developing a KEK Skills Ecosystem within Special Economic Zones (KEK). This model integrates industry needs with education through four-month training programs, split between vocational training centers and direct industry placement. This ecosystem involves collaboration between KEK managers, local governments, certification bodies, and business incubators to ensure training aligns with specific industrial competencies.
