Indonesia Ministry of Public Works targets flood control and regional road upgrades

Indonesian Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo has outlined new strategies for flood control and infrastructure improvement across several regions. In Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands, Hanggodo stated that relying solely on the Srikaton Reservoir is insufficient for flood management. He directed officials to conduct comprehensive assessments of river flows, downstream areas, and estuaries to identify severe sedimentation or bottlenecks. Additionally, he called for the revitalization of the historic Terusan River to optimize its function for the community.

In East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), the Ministry of Public Works is shifting its focus from national roads, which are reported to be in good condition, to the strengthening and paving of provincial and regency roads. Priority will be given to routes connecting different regencies and those serving as alternative paths.

Complementing these efforts, the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, led by Maruarar Sirait, is preparing 500 permanent houses for earthquake victims in NTT. This initiative involves cooperation with the private sector and includes a 5 billion IDR fund to assist with home renovations for disaster-affected residents.
