Indonesia Ministry of Transportation proposes WFA to mitigate holiday traffic

The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation has proposed a 'Work From Anywhere' (WFA) policy for December 21–22, 2026, and January 4, 2027, to alleviate traffic congestion during the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

Director General of Land Transportation Aan Suhanan stated that the initiative aims to disperse travel concentrations and prevent vehicle volumes from peaking simultaneously with the predicted holiday travel surges. The peak outbound travel is expected on December 23, 2026, while the peak return travel is projected for January 3, 2027.

The proposal is subject to further coordination with the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs. In addition to the WFA suggestion, authorities are discussing joint decrees for toll road traffic management, including potential restrictions on freight vehicles and traffic engineering measures.
