Indonesia Ministry of Villages announces new rural development initiatives

The Indonesian Ministry of Villages and Disadvantaged Regional Development (Kemendes PDT) has announced several strategic programs aimed at boosting rural economies and infrastructure. Minister Yandri Susanto revealed that the government has reduced the construction target for Merah Putih Village Cooperatives (KDKMP) warehouses and outlets from 80,000 to 40,000 units. This adjustment is due to a shortage of ideal land meeting the 1,000-square-meter criteria required by Agrinas and the TNI.

In a separate initiative, the ministry is preparing 71 villages to serve as pilot models for the ‘Kuantum Desa’ program. Selected from 211 identified villages, these pilots aim to accelerate development status and foster village independence through optimized resource collaboration. The results of these pilots will be documented to provide guidance for other regions.

Additionally, Minister Susanto highlighted the emergence of export-oriented villages under the Prabowo-Gibran administration. By utilizing Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), some villages have achieved significant annual revenues, contributing to local economic value and job creation as part of the national strategy to build development from the grassroots level.
