Indonesia Ministry plans to increase National Science Olympiad prizes in 2027
Indonesia's Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is planning to increase the prize money for the National Science Olympiad (OSN) in 2027. This decision follows public criticism regarding the 2026 award amounts, which some perceived as having decreased.
Minister Abdul Mu'ti stated that the government is currently evaluating the award system and seeking appropriate financing schemes to improve rewards for science talents. While the 2026 prize amounts will remain as scheduled, the ministry aims to implement a better system in the coming years.
For the 2026 competition, gold medalists at the elementary (SD/MI) and junior high (SMP/MTs) levels received Rp 15 million, while silver and bronze recipients received Rp 10 million and Rp 5 million, respectively. At the senior high school level (SMA/MA/SMK), gold medalists received Rp 25 million, silver Rp 20 million, and bronze Rp 15 million.
