Indonesia Ministry promotes rural women's leadership in climate action
The Indonesian Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA) is advocating for the strengthened leadership of rural women to combat climate change. The initiative focuses on enhancing food security, managing natural resources, and driving green economic development.
Amurwani Dwi Lestariningsih, the Deputy for Gender Equality at KemenPPPA, noted that rural women are strategic actors in maintaining community resilience. However, she highlighted that these women face disproportionate burdens from climate-related issues, including droughts, floods, crop failures, and limited access to land, technology, and financing.
To address these vulnerabilities, the ministry emphasizes the necessity of integrating a gender perspective into all climate action policies. By utilizing a Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) approach, the government aims to ensure that climate programs are inclusive and that women are empowered as agents of change for sustainable solutions.
