Indonesia ministry warns of advanced digital human trafficking

The Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA) warned that traffickers are increasingly exploiting digital platforms to recruit victims. Deputy for Women's Rights Desy Andriani said perpetrators use social media, messaging apps and online job portals to lure people into sexual exploitation, forced labor, and illegal internships. She noted that digital tools accelerate recruitment, expand reach and make detection harder, with technology now used at every stage—from enlistment to financial transactions and online exploitation. The ministry urged the public to be wary of job offers promising easy processes and high pay without clear procedures, especially during the World Anti‑Human Trafficking Day 2026.

"Pola kejahatan TPPO telah berubah di era digital ini. Jika dahulu perekrutan lebih banyak dilakukan secara langsung, kini pelaku memanfaatkan media sosial, aplikasi percakapan, hingga platform lowongan kerja," Desy Andriani stated.
