Indonesia moves to export urea fertilizer to Australia, India and Bangladesh

Indonesia's state‑owned PT Pupuk Indonesia is beginning a new round of fertilizer exports after delivering 47,250 tonnes of urea to Australia's Port of Brisbane under a long‑term government‑to‑government agreement covering 250,000 tonnes. President Prabowo Subianto has instructed that domestic stockpiles be secured before surplus production is shipped abroad.

Company chief Rahmad Pribadi said, "We have begun trade with Australia and are now in talks with other countries, including Bangladesh, India, and several others in Asia," adding that Indonesia's production capacity now exceeds local farmer demand. The firm is positioning the surplus to support regional agricultural input needs amid volatile global fertilizer markets, with plans to align shipments to planting seasons—Australia first, followed by South Asian markets later.
