Indonesia MSME Minister promotes entrepreneurship and business incubation

Indonesian Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Maman Abdurrahman is promoting entrepreneurship as a primary career path for students to combat unemployment and drive national economic growth. During a speech at Universitas Sumatera Utara, the Minister urged students to shift their mindset from job seekers to job creators.

To support this initiative, the Ministry of MSME is organizing the 'Bursa Wirausaha Unggulan' (Leading Entrepreneurship Exchange). This forum connects incubated entrepreneurs with potential business partners, financing institutions, technology providers, and logistics networks. The program aims to provide comprehensive assistance to approximately 500 MSMEs, covering areas such as licensing, legal certification, production increases, and market access.

The Ministry is also utilizing incubation centers both within and outside university campuses to expand support for Indonesia's 57 million MSMEs. In North Sumatra alone, 17 incubation institutions have been identified to support the regional entrepreneurship ecosystem. The government's broader goal, following presidential directives, is to support approximately 10 million entrepreneurs and workers through standardized curricula and coordinated policies across central and local governments.
