Indonesia non-oil and gas exports grow amid calls to upgrade Tanjung Emas Port

Indonesia's non-oil and gas exports reached 160.01 billion US dollars from January to July 2026, representing a 5.21% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Data from the Ministry of Trade indicates that economic dominance in export markets remains concentrated in Java and mineral downstreaming regions, with West Java leading the nation in non-oil and gas export value.

In Central Java, business leaders and associations are calling for the upgrade of Tanjung Emas Port to become a primary gateway for regional import-export activities. The Jarot Wibowo, Chairman of the Central Java-DIY Bonded Zone Entrepreneurs Association, emphasized that increasing port capacity, expanding terminals, and adding equipment are urgent requirements to support growing industrial investments. Stakeholders expressed concern that insufficient logistics infrastructure at Tanjung Emas could drive businesses to redirect their activities to other major ports like Tanjung Priok in Jakarta or Tanjung Perak in Surabaya.
