Indonesia officials urge oversight for Danantara and DSI initiatives
Indonesian legislators and policy experts are calling for rigorous oversight and professional governance regarding new state-led economic initiatives. Mardani Ali Sera, a member of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), emphasized that while state involvement in investments is a valid strategy for economic growth, it must be supported by transparent, accountable, and competent management to prevent the misuse of authority and corruption.
In a related development, Herry Gunawan, Director of the NEXT Indonesia Center, addressed President Prabowo’s plan to implement a single-door export system through Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI). Gunawan warned that DSI must prioritize its mandate to curb export leakages and strengthen the supervision of natural resource commodities—such as coal, palm oil, and ferroalloys—rather than merely acting as a new business entity. He stressed that DSI should focus on data integration and transaction verification to detect issues like under-invoicing and transfer pricing, ensuring it does not duplicate the functions of existing ministries.
