Indonesia OJK blocks 36,191 accounts linked to online gambling

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) instructed Indonesian banks to block 36,191 accounts identified as being used for online gambling and to apply enhanced due diligence (EDD) to those accounts. The authority also ordered banks to close any additional accounts that share National ID numbers (NIK) with the flagged individuals, aiming to prevent the opening of new illicit accounts.

The number of accounts targeted rose from about 33,836 in earlier reports. In related enforcement actions, OJK revoked the license of PT Bank Perekonomian Rakyat (BPR) Ceper Permata Artha in Klaten, Central Java, and seized 41 assets tied to alleged wrongdoing in the sharia banking sector in Medan, North Sumatra. Despite these measures, OJK said the overall stability of Indonesia’s financial services sector remains intact amid global economic uncertainty.
