Indonesia opens market to Uruguayan citrus, soy, and wheat

Indonesia has authorized the entry of Uruguayan citrus, soybeans, and wheat for human consumption into its market. President Yamandú Orsi described the decision as a significant opportunity for Uruguayan producers and exporters to diversify their destinations and strengthen the country's international presence.

The move is part of a strategic effort initiated in 2025 to increase Uruguayan commercial presence in Southeast Asia. This follows the recent successful shipment of milk powder to Indonesia. Uruguayan authorities are currently working toward securing similar authorization for beef exports.

To facilitate these trade agreements, a delegation including representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, as well as the National Milk Institute and the National Meat Institute, visited Indonesia in August. In 2024, Uruguay's primary exports to Indonesia included wood, crustaceans, and tanned leather and hides.
