Indonesia targets October 2026 ratification for Labor Protection Bill
The Indonesian government and the House of Representatives (DPR RI) are working toward the ratification of the Labor Protection Bill (RUU Pelindungan Ketenagakerjaan), with a target date of October 8, 2026. The legislative process aims to balance investment ease with worker welfare, addressing modern shifts in the employment landscape.
A key focus of the bill is the inclusion of digital platform workers, such as online motorcycle taxi drivers, who operate within a highly flexible ecosystem. Lawmakers noted that traditional employment models do not fully capture the nuances of these new roles, suggesting that while the bill will provide general protections, more detailed regulations may follow.
To ensure comprehensive coverage, the government is also preparing a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) regarding online transportation to synchronize labor, traffic, and MSME ecosystems. Meanwhile, Minister of Manpower Yassierli emphasized that the legislative process remains transparent, with open channels for input from employers, labor unions, and various stakeholders to ensure legal certainty for all parties.
