Indonesia outlines climate action plans at UN Summit

At the 2026 Climate Summit held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Indonesia's Minister of Environment and Head of the Environmental Control Agency, Moh. Jumhur Hidayat, outlined the nation's climate strategies under President Prabowo Subianto. The Minister emphasized that Indonesia is translating climate commitments into concrete actions that align economic growth with environmental protection.

Indonesia aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060 or sooner. Key initiatives include industrial decarbonization, the development of large-scale solar energy, the implementation of Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), the expansion of electric vehicles, and the B50 biofuel program. The government is also focusing on reducing emissions from waste and methane sectors.

In the forestry and land use sector, Indonesia is working toward a Net Sink 2030 target to ensure greenhouse gas absorption exceeds emissions. Minister Hidayat noted that the Paris Agreement serves as the nation's guide, stressing that the transition to a low-carbon economy must be just and led by the state while addressing global temperature rise limits.
