Indonesia palm oil exports surge amid high global demand
Indonesia continues to dominate the global palm oil market, controlling over 55% of world exports. According to USDA reports, the country's production reached 46 million tons for the 2024/2025 period. Riau province remains the largest contributor, accounting for 10.7 million tons of exports in 2025, supported by the nation's largest plantation area of 3.49 million hectares.
Recent industry data from GAPKI shows a significant surge in exports, with total palm oil product exports rising 64.08% in June 2026 compared to the previous month. Crude palm oil (CPO) exports saw a massive spike, increasing from 31,000 tons in May to 335,000 tons in June.
Domestic consumption is also rising, driven largely by the biodiesel sector, which reached 1.13 million tons in June. While production of CPO and palm kernel oil grew by 15.82% in the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year, the combination of high exports and rising domestic demand has resulted in a stock level of 2.84 million tons as of late June 2026.
