Indonesia Partners with International Pepper Community to Boost Sustainable Pepper Industry

The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF‑SGP) Indonesia and the International Pepper Community (IPC) signed a memorandum of understanding in Jakarta on 22 July 2026. The agreement aims to strengthen pepper farmers' capacity, promote biodiversity‑friendly cultivation, and develop value‑added pepper products such as perfumes, pepper‑coffee blends and aromatherapy oils. GEF‑SGP National Coordinator Sidi Rana Menggala emphasized that sustainability must grow from local solutions to protect biodiversity while improving farmer livelihoods. IPC Executive Director Marina Novira Anggraini said the partnership will provide market information, research, technical assistance and knowledge exchange to meet global demand for responsibly produced pepper. Private‑sector participants, including PT Supa Surya Niaga, pledged to support the supply chain by linking harvested pepper to markets that require food‑safety and sustainability standards.
