Indonesia plans integrated solar and gas housing for industrial zones

The Indonesian government is developing a concept for integrated housing projects designed to support workers in strategic industrial zones. These residential areas will be integrated with gas networks (jargas) and solar power (PLTS) infrastructure from the initial planning stages.

Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait and Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition Bahlil Lahadalia discussed using North Maluku as a pilot location due to its significant industrial activity, which includes USD 20 billion in ongoing investment and an additional USD 7 billion in planned projects. Other potential pilot sites include industrial areas in Tangerang and Bekasi.

Separately, the government is working to enhance the '3 Million Houses Program' by improving housing quality and expanding access to financing. The Housing Program Credit (KPP) ceiling for 2026 has been proposed to increase from Rp36 trillion to Rp50 trillion to support low-income communities and stimulate economic activity through various banking and construction sectors.
