Roy Suryo and Dr. Tifa detained in Jokowi diploma case, now in police hospital
On 19 June 2026 police from Polda Metro Jaya arrested former minister Roy Suryo and academic‑activist Tifauzia Tyassuma (known as Dr Tifa) within about ten minutes of each other. Both were named suspects in a case alleging defamation, hate speech and electronic‑data manipulation related to claims that President Joko Widodo’s diploma is fake. After being taken to the police‑hospital (RS Polri Kramat Jati) for medical examinations, Dr Tifa suffered a flare‑up of gastro‑esophageal reflux disease (GERD) attributed to fasting and high stress from upcoming dissertation exams, requiring wheelchair assistance. Roy Suryo’s condition was reported as generally good but with an unspecified common ailment. Their lawyers argue the two were cooperative, criticize the forced arrest as unnecessary when a summons would suffice, and accuse political interference in the process. Former President Jokowi said he respects the legal proceedings and will attend the trial, bringing his original diploma. Advocacy groups (TA‑AKAA) and public figures, including Din Syamsuddin, offered to act as guarantors for their release, while prosecutors have completed the case dossier (P21) and identified eight suspects in total.
