Indonesia police bust meth network in East Java and stop prison drug smuggling in Jakarta

The Narcotics Crime Unit of the Bangkalan Police Department uncovered a methamphetamine distribution network operating across Bangkalan and Surabaya. Four suspects were arrested and nine packages of meth, each weighing between 0.021 g and 0.955 g, were seized along with related paraphernalia.

In Jakarta, prison authorities on 15 June 2026 thwarted four separate drug‑smuggling attempts targeting the Jakarta Drug Prison and the Salemba detention centre. Two cases at the drug prison involved concealment of meth packages (8.72 g and 20.30 g) inside the perpetrators' bodily orifices. At Salemba, officers intercepted a woman carrying Etomidate concealed in a cough‑medicine bottle and another woman with a 40.1 g meth packet hidden in hair. All suspects and seized items have been handed over to police for further investigation.
