Indonesia police detain thieves in Karanganyar scrap‑iron and Surabaya iron‑chair thefts
Police in Karanganyar, Central Java, arrested two men – Slamet Wibowo, 50, of Pasar Kliwon, Surakarta, and Catur Waryono, 40, of Mojolaban, Sukoharjo – after they stole twelve 2‑meter bars of scrap iron from an empty warehouse in the village of Jumantono. The suspects were detained by local residents, and police seized the iron, two motorcycles and other evidence. The warehouse owner reported a loss of about Rp500 000.
In Surabaya, a 29‑year‑old man identified as Naufal from Sumenep, Madura, was caught after attempting to sell four iron chairs belonging to the city. He had used an ambulance to transport the chairs and was intercepted by Satpol PP officers while negotiating with a scrap‑metal dealer. The chairs and the suspect were taken to the Gubeng police station for further processing.
