Listyo Sigit dismissed as Chief of Staff over alleged wiretapping scandal
President Prabowo Subianto has dismissed Listyo Sigit Prabowo from his position as Chief of Staff of the Presidency following his designation as a suspect in an illegal wiretapping scandal. Listyo Sigit, a former National Police Chief, is accused alongside two other high-ranking officers, Irjen Ahrie Sonta Nasution and Irjen Eko Hadi Santoso, of conducting unauthorized interceptions between 2025 and 2026.
Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) allege the suspects used the Lawful Interception Management System (LIMS) to target the communications of President Prabowo Subianto, cabinet ministers, politicians, journalists, activists, and businesspeople without legal authorization. The suspects are also accused of ordering the deletion of intercepted files and electronic logs in October 2026 to conceal their activities.
Government officials, including State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, stated that the actions could be categorized as acts tending toward treason, as they potentially endanger state interests and the safety of national leadership. Lieutenant General Aryo Windutomo has been appointed as the Acting Chief of Staff to fill the vacancy. The suspects are currently detained at the National Police Headquarters detention center and face potential prison sentences of up to 10 years.
