Indonesia police probe multi‑billion‑rupiah corruption in Bengkulu and Papua West
Police investigators from the Special Criminal Investigation Unit (Ditreskrimsus) of the Bengkulu Regional Police, together with the Development and Finance Oversight Agency (BPKP), began a raid on the Kepahiang district Tourism, Youth and Sports Office (Disparpora). They seized documents and evidence relating to alleged misuse of Rp6.2 billion in budget funds for seven projects in the 2023 fiscal year.
In Papua Barat Daya, the police’s anti‑corruption division (Tipikor) escalated a case involving the secretariat of the Provincial People’s Representative Council (DPRP). Investigators have examined 43 witnesses, including 30 legislators suspected of receiving about Rp80 million each from fictitious procurement contracts. The probe targets an estimated loss of Rp6.5 billion linked to irregular procurement of office supplies, computers and other items for the DPRP secretariat.
Both investigations are coordinated with Indonesia’s financial audit body (BPK) and focus on alleged large‑scale embezzlement of public funds.
