Indonesia praised by UNIDO as industrial best‑practice as minister calls for zone upgrades to win global investment

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) highlighted Indonesia as a best‑practice example for industrial downstreaming in its Industrial Development Report 2026. The report notes Indonesia’s progress in mineral processing and the development of a national electric‑vehicle ecosystem, and quotes Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita saying the recognition shows the country’s industrial transformation is gaining international attention.

Minister Kartasasmita added that competition for global investment now hinges on the performance of individual industrial zones rather than on whole‑country comparisons. He urged zone managers to evolve into integrated ecosystems that accelerate investment, offering supply‑chain integration, innovation hubs, skilled‑labour development and green‑industry pathways, emphasizing speed and certainty as key factors for investors.
