Indonesia targets top-10 finish at 2026 Asian Para Games
The Indonesian contingent is preparing to compete in the 2026 Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from October 18 to 24. The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Indonesia has set a target for the nation to finish in the top 10 of the overall standings, aiming to secure seven gold, eight silver, and 17 bronze medals.
Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir and Chef de Mission Reda Manthovani officially sent off the athletes in Surakarta. The contingent includes 103 athletes competing across 12 sports, with badminton, athletics, and boccia identified as primary medal prospects. Thohir also expressed a strategic goal to close the regional gap with Thailand, which currently leads Southeast Asia in historical gold medal counts.
Regional support for inclusive sports remains high, with local authorities in Kampar and Banten officially deploying their respective Special Olympics Indonesia (SOIna) contingents for the upcoming 2026 National Special Olympics Games (PeSONas II). Additionally, veteran para-swimmer Jendi Pangabean has confirmed his readiness to defend his previous titles at the upcoming Asian Para Games.
