Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto Faces Cabinet Reshuffle Speculation

Public satisfaction with President Prabowo Subianto’s administration has fallen sharply, with an SMRC poll showing a drop from 81.2% in November 2025 to 51.1% in July 2026. The decline has reignited calls for a cabinet reshuffle, particularly a new figure to head the trade ministry, as critics argue several ministers lack the capability to manage the country’s economic and social challenges.

Members of the Golkar party and political analysts, including Ahmad Irawan and Kamir Abdullah, note that reshuffling remains a presidential prerogative and could be used to evaluate ministerial performance. Democratic Party leader Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono says no formal talks have occurred, while Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia urges the public not to speculate.

State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi told reporters on a train from Batang to Jakarta that President Prabowo has not discussed any reshuffle. He added that if a reshuffle happens it would aim to fill vacant deputy‑minister posts, such as the Agriculture deputy post after Sudaryono’s move to the National Nutrition Agency and the Immigration & Corrections deputy post left empty amid a corruption probe.
