Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto's Approval Falls to 51% Amid Economic and Political Discontent

A Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) survey conducted from 5‑19 July 2026 of 749 eligible voters shows President Prabowo Subianto's public approval dropping from 81.2% in November 2025 to 51.1% in July 2026 – a decline of 30.1 percentage points.

Only 4.8% of respondents said they were very satisfied with the president’s performance, while 46.3% were fairly satisfied. Dissatisfaction rose sharply: 35% reported being somewhat dissatisfied, 11.9% very dissatisfied and the share of those expressing no satisfaction at all increased from 16% to 46.9%.

SMRC officials linked the fall to worsening public perception of the national economy, politics and law‑enforcement. Only 15.7% rated the economy as good or very good, versus 49.4% who deemed it bad or very bad. Views of politics were similarly negative, with just 13.5% marking it good or very good and 42.8% rating it bad or very bad. Deni Irvani, SMRC’s executive director, stressed that these sentiment shifts are driving the approval decline.
