Indonesia prioritizes old-age protection for informal workers

Indonesian Manpower Minister Yassierli has identified old-age social protection for informal workers as a primary government priority. With approximately 60 percent of Indonesia’s 155 million workforce operating in the informal sector, the government aims to ensure these workers can maintain independence and prosperity during retirement.

Addressing the transition from a demographic bonus to an aging population, Yassierli emphasized the need for cross-sector collaboration to prepare citizens for post-work life. He highlighted the Financial Services Authority’s (OJK) initiative, the 2026 Pension Fund Month, as a key step toward expanding social protection coverage. Current data from the OJK indicates that the pension fund literacy index in Indonesia stands at 22 percent.
