Indonesia promotes disaster mitigation through emergency kits and community training
Indonesian authorities are emphasizing the importance of disaster mitigation and individual preparedness. Dr. Muhammad Hidayat, an expert from the Government Communication Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (Bakom RI), has urged citizens to prepare emergency kits (tas siaga darurat) at home. These kits should include essential items such as cash, important documents, first aid kits, and identification cards. He specifically noted the importance of including a whistle to help search and rescue teams locate victims during a crisis.
In Ciamis Regency, local government efforts are focusing on youth engagement through the Sahabat TAGANA program. Fifty-nine participants from the former Rancah division recently underwent training to build disaster awareness and social care. Ihsan Rasyad, Head of the Ciamis Social Affairs Office, highlighted that disaster preparedness should begin with simple actions, such as knowing how to save oneself and remaining calm during emergencies.
