Indonesia promotes safe, evidence-based stem cell therapy

The Indonesian Ministry of Health is advocating for the development of stem cell therapy as a safe medical service with proven clinical benefits. During a recent event in Jakarta, officials emphasized that regenerative therapies—including derivatives such as secretomes, exosomes, and extracellular vesicles—offer potential treatments for conditions in fields like orthopedics, aesthetics, and neurology.

To ensure patient safety, the Ministry highlighted three priority areas: providing the public with accurate information regarding proven benefits and risks, ensuring therapies are administered by competent medical personnel, and requiring that products are sourced from licensed, traceable stem cell processing laboratories.

The Ministry also aims to strengthen the regenerative therapy ecosystem by developing regulations, expanding research hospital capabilities, and improving laboratory capacity and patient outcome monitoring systems.
